Jiade Machinery Recovers an Annual Output Value of 100 Million Yuan from Foreign Investors

How precise can a steel roll, as thin as a pencil and about one meter long, be machined?

Up to 0.01 millimeters — one-tenth the diameter of a human hair. Backed by such outstanding technical prowess, Xiangyang Jiade Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Jiade Machinery) recaptures an annual output value of 100 million yuan in the Import Substitution market.

Founded in 2014, Jiade Machinery mainly produces core components for the petroleum and metallurgical industries, including Work Rolls, pump bearings and constant velocity joint Couplings. The company targets the import substitution segment, with work rolls as its flagship product. As core industrial equipment parts for rolling, calendering and extruding materials, work rolls bear immense pressure and abrasion, making them consumables in industrial production.

Qian Jun, Chief Engineer of Jiade Machinery, explained that many metallurgical enterprises previously relied on imported work rolls, which come with long delivery cycles and high prices, leaving huge market room for domestic import-substituted alternatives.

To seize the import substitution market, the company first had to break through technical barriers set by foreign manufacturers. Though work rolls look like ordinary steel bars of varying thicknesses, their manufacturing integrates sophisticated materials science and processing technologies. Machining slender rolls, in particular, serves as a litmus test for an enterprise’s technical strength: the thinner and longer a roll is, the greater the vibration generated during processing, which severely impairs machining precision.

To tackle precision bottlenecks for slender rolls, Jiade Machinery’s R&D team carried out repeated trials and innovatively developed an encrypted multi-point support technology, controlling machining tolerance within 0.01 mm. “The two types of work rolls we produce — 12 mm in diameter × 950 mm in length, and 16 mm in diameter × 1,540 mm in length — are at the leading domestic level,” said Qian Jun.

Beyond resolving core machining challenges, Jiade Machinery has independently developed and manufactured complete equipment including Tension Leveling lines, Multi-roll Straighteners, rotary Side Trimmers, and coating machines.

On September 11, inside Jiade Machinery’s production workshop, a 23-roll tension leveling line was under assembly, with workers installing Roll cassettes into the equipment unit by unit.

“This machine is engineered to match products made by Germany’s Engel,” Qian Jun introduced. Ultra-thin metal foil of just 0.02 mm thickness is only one-third as thick as paper, with surface waviness and camber barely visible to the naked eye; leveling is an indispensable pre-processing step. The unit can reduce flatness defects from 30 I-units down to 3 I-units (I-unit stands for flatness measurement unit), delivering performance on par with world-class international standards.

Leveraging its technical advantages, Jiade Machinery has forged steady progress in import substitution. Starting out as a component processing workshop, it has grown into a national high-tech enterprise and a provincial gazelle enterprise under Hubei’s “New Species” Sci-Tech Innovation Program, specializing in the R&D and manufacturing of metallurgical strip finishing equipment, industrial machine tools and core finishing equipment parts. Its products are supplied to major groups and research institutes including Baowu Group, Ansteel Group and MCC Southern Engineering, and exported to overseas markets covering the United States, Turkey, Vietnam, India, Russia and more, with annual sales revenue exceeding 100 million yuan.
